How French and English media covered a story
Tokos has two editions: one reads English-language outlets, the other French-language outlets. Side by side, they show how one event travels across languages.
Compare in two taps
- Open the story on tokos.news, then switch to FR at the top of the page. The French edition has its own cards, from French-language outlets.
- Look for the same event: the title is in French, but the people and places are the same.
- Compare the number of sources on each card, and which outlets appear.
Compare with the story pages
- On the data page, open “Biggest stories”. Each page gives the number of outlets, the first and last times, and who was first.
- Open the English story, then the French one, and compare: how many outlets, how fast, and from which countries.
Compare with the files
- Download daily_cards for the day.
- The “edition” column says en or fr. Filter on each in turn.
- Count the outlets per story, or look at the first times in the sightings file for the same day.
Keep in mind
The two editions read different outlets, so the same event is two separate story cards with different ids.
Tokos covers about 64 outlets in all, not every outlet in either language. We only see what outlets publish in their public feeds.
