Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Imago News does with data. It covers the website at imago.news and the Imago News apps for iOS and Android, which are native shells around that same website. The short version: you can use Imago News with no account at all, and then we collect no personal information; an optional account stores only what it needs to sign you in and sync your settings; analytics run only if you allow them; and anything the app remembers for you stays on your device unless you sign in to sync it.

Who we are
Imago News is an independent news aggregator that groups coverage of the same story across major outlets. It links to publishers' own pages and does not host their articles.
What we collect
- An account is optional: You can read, follow topics, and save stories without any account, and then we ask for and store nothing about you — no name, email, phone number, or location. If you choose to create an account, we store only what is needed to sign you in and sync your settings across devices; the details are in “Accounts” below.
- Analytics, only with consent: If you accept analytics on the cookie notice, Google Analytics records anonymous usage data — which pages are viewed, and general device and browser information — to help us understand what is read. It is not linked to your identity, is not sold, and is not used to track you across other apps or sites. Where consent is required, analytics stays off until you accept, and you can decline at any time, which disables it and clears its cookies.
- On-device storage: Your followed topics and outlets, saved stories, and light/dark choice are stored on your device. If you are not signed in, they never leave it. If you sign in, your follows and saved stories also sync to your account so they appear on your other devices (your light/dark choice always stays on-device). Clearing the app or site data removes the local copy.
Accounts
An account is entirely optional and exists to do two things: let you choose which sections make up your feed, and sync your follows and saved stories across your devices. Everyone sees the same build either way — an account only changes what it shows you, not what is published.
You can sign in in whichever way you prefer, and we store only what that method needs:
- Email and password: we store your email address and a securely hashed version of your password — never the password itself.
- Passkey: we store the passkey's public key, which by design cannot be used to sign in on its own; the private key never leaves your device.
- Google or Apple: we store the account identifier they give us and the email address they share, so we can recognise you next time. We never receive your Google or Apple password.
Alongside that, an account holds the settings it exists to sync: the sections you chose for your feed, your followed topics and outlets, and your saved stories. We use your email address only to send account emails — confirming your address and, if you ask, resetting your password — delivered through our email provider, Resend. We do not sell any of this, and it is never used for advertising or cross-site tracking.
You can ask us to export or delete your account and everything tied to it at any time — see “Your choices” below.
The apps
The iOS and Android apps display the imago.news website and collect no additional data of their own. They add native conveniences — pull-to-refresh, back navigation, and a Share button that opens your device's own share sheet. When you share, your device handles it; we do not see what you send or to whom. Links to outside publishers open in your device's browser, where that publisher's own privacy policy applies.
Cookies
The only non-essential cookies are Google Analytics' (for example _ga), and they are set only after you accept analytics. Your consent choice itself is remembered so you are not asked repeatedly. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are used.
Third parties
- Google Analytics — anonymous usage measurement, only with consent (see Google's own privacy terms).
- Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, and the database that holds accounts, with standard server logs used to run and protect the site.
- Resend — sends account emails (address confirmation and password resets) if you create an account; it receives only your email address, for that purpose.
- Google and Apple — only if you choose to sign in with them, to confirm who you are, under their own terms.
- News publishers — when you tap through to an article, you leave Imago News for that outlet's site, under its own terms.
Children
Imago News is a general news service, not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Your choices
You can decline or withdraw analytics consent at any time from the cookie notice; clear your saved stories, follows, and preferences by clearing the app or browser data; and stop all on-device storage by using the app in a private browsing context. If you do not have an account, we hold nothing tied to your identity. If you do, you can sign out on any device, and you can ask us to export or permanently delete your account and all of its data at any time by emailing privacy@imago.news.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date above changes with it, and the current version always lives at this address.
